A FEW MORE SONIC SOUVENIRS

06/06/2021

By now you've probably watched Sonic Souvenirs, Michael February's sublime ode to his homeland that traces a journey from the west coast up the east coast of South Africa.

Now Now producer-slash-photographer Alan van Gysen was enlisted to shoot stills for the project, which had originally been planned as a trip to India. Then coronavirus happened, and AvG suggested looking inwards instead. The result was three months spent along some of the photographer and subject's favourite haunts, set to the music of Zulu jazz maestro, Madala Kunene. There were far too many moments to fit into the film (or here for that matter), but we've cherry picked a few to keep the rhythm going.
